Felicitas Design Co’s namesake, Saint Felicity (Felicitas in latin), a second century martyr, was known for her steadfast fortitude and a life devoted to prayer, charity and conversion of Roman pagans to Christianity. Her story is in equal measure remarkable, brutal and inspiring as the mother of seven sons all sentenced to death for their refusal to deny Christ and offer sacrifice to pagan gods. She encouraged each of her sons to look to heaven and remain firm in their faith, thus denying the Roman authorities their desired outcome of her apostasy and leading her to face the same end.

The latin word Felicitas, adopted into Middle English in the late 14th century as felicity, means intense happiness, bliss or joy.

In pursuit of the virtue of fortitude and with joyful spirits, we can use the wisdom of the Church and her Saints to inspire us daily. While most of us are not called to wear the crown of a martyr, we are called to live our lives for Christ and be a witness to His light, by emanating it ourselves.
